A raw and surreal anthropological journey into the Dominican Republic

The Republic Of Baseball is an ongoing multi-media project created in collaboration with Modoc Stories. A raw and surreal anthropological journey into the Dominican Republic, an island nation where cultures have mixed in bloody power shifts for centuries. Here, the joy and innocence of boyhood collide with the urgency of economic salvation through baseball. The young boy's game quickly becomes a desperate opportunity to raise his family out of poverty. The path to escape narrows, and the life of an economically caste system falls into stark focus.

The project was launched with an award-winning photography series by Michael Hanson, earning top honors at Pictures Of The Year International and featured in The New York Times and Communication Arts. The project continues to expand in vision to include intersections of documentary film, experimental music, audio interactive, Virtual Reality and physical mediums.
